Meaghan Major had the urge to be a witness of the world she experienced and chose photography and journalism to express her sensitivity to people and to places. Born and raised in a Franco-American family, she was exposed early on to the individual aspects of a multicultural life. She has since made the world her home, balancing the paradox of urban living and nurturing an inner life. "I seek to grow in wisdom through an active development of the world" may explain her consideration for people's uniqueness rather than for their difference and her relentless focus on capturing the unseen beauty in mundane things, seeking to reveal their hidden qualities to our often glazed eyes.
Most recently she has focused on social issues as the transformation of Indian society and AIDS in Mnahattan, as well as on developing her body of work on urban culture. Meaghan's work was recently published in L'Espresso, the weekly magazine of Italian newspaper La Republica, as well as in a special issue of Courrier International. She worked in the Press department of Magnum Photo Paris and as the assistant of the Photo Editor for Vogue Paris. These experiences allowed her to better understand the whole process of photojournalism, from taking a picture to having it published. Today she is conscious of what it involves to work in an agency as much as in a magazine. Meaghan has a bachelor's degree in journalism (ISCPA/IGS-Paris) and a certificate in photojournalism and documentary photography (International Center of Photography, New York).
